“ First time here tonight, super excited to try it as we pass by every 2nd Saturday for the art walk. It was pretty packed and Jeffrey did a good job of getting our orders and our food came out within 20 minutes or so. Meanwhile it was fun to check out their market. We ordered three of the combos, with jerk chicken, curry chicken, and brown stew chicken. Each of the chickens were flavorful and cooked to perfect falling off the bone tenderness. The jerk chicken definitely had a kick to it. For sides we chose rice and peas, steamed cabbage and spinach, fried plantains and festival. The medium plate was plenty for moderate hunger level, and reasonably priced at $17. Brightly lit and clean, including the bathroom. We'll be back! There are breakfast and lunch items we'd like to try! ”
“ Such a cool restaurant to be found in downtown Pomona! Stopped by on a weekday and got a Lunch special and a side of plantains. I feel like Jamaican food can be hard to come by throughout SoCal so glad to find some here. There's a handful of Lunch specials to choose from but on the waiter's recommendation I got the Brown Stew Chicken bowl with peas and rice which was delicious--everything was super flavorful, comforting, fresh, and came out pretty fast. The chicken fell off the bone easily and I didn't have to use my hands. I also got a 4-piece side of plantains which was also simple and tasty. The service was really great and the interior of the restaurant is super cute. They even have a bunch of goods for sale (which is where the "market") part comes in on the side of the store. I didn't get to try any, but there was also a refrigerator with plenty of baked goods that looked super yummy. Prices were definitely reasonable so it won't hurt your wallet too much! ”
“ Place is still great....only Jamaican food place around me. The festivities option today was a fried sweet doughnut. Better than any American doughnut I ever had... ”
“ Been coming to hilltop for years now , from their old location on holt to when they moved to dt Pomona . Hilltop has always had good Jamaican food , and a small grocery store feel as well. The spot is cool , it has a bar area and an outdoor area as well. Like any other place some days are slower than others . The staff is are always nice and helpful and the food usually comes out pretty quick . I believe the weeks brunch is the happening days or evening ls with a dj . Always a good choice for some good food , the jerk sauce has a nice spice to it , the rice and less flavorful and moist , the spinach good . Good plantains and festivals . The patties I feel are hit and miss sometimes, but always good!!! ”
“ **June 2024: Sunday Afternoon Visit** I had this restaurant bookmarked for some time and my friend and I decided to check it out on way back from a convention. The restaurant is located in a downtown plaza center and there's some complimentary 2 hour parking nearby. The surrounding area is pretty grey, but the restaurant itself was very vibrant and it makes you feel like you're on the islands. I love the tropical feel and it just makes you feel happy and alive. There are a couple of bar seats and maybe 5 or so tables of 4. My friend and I sat near the window and ordered two traditional Jamaican dishes to try. Oxtail ($36.91): I really liked the flavors of this and used the sauce to also season my rice. Curried Goat ($25.99): It was good, but I preferred the oxtail. The goat wasn't gamy, but just a smidge tougher than the oxtail. Both orders came with three starches. I recommend the following: Rice with Peas (peas are black beans here), plantains, and cabbage. The spinach was a bit bland for me. Overall, it was a pleasant meal. I think the price is a little high for each entree, but I don't have access to eat Jamaican food readily so if I want to get away without really getting away this would be a good option. P.S. There is a cash discount if you pay with the greens instead of plastic ”
“ I crave their beef patties almost everyday. The beef is probably the best but I always get the veggie one! Honestly they ALL ARE so good! I ask for jerk sauce on the side for that extra spice! YUM! I go to the school right next to them so whenever I have time I enjoy my quick walks and pick up a couple patties for classmates and I! Service is always great and people are always nice! Would definitely try other items like their entree/ plates! Thank you for your amazing patties that I crave everyday haha ”
